Joao Pessoa, Brazil
What to know before visiting Joao Pessoa
Joao Pessoa is the capital of the state of Paraiba in northeastern Brazil and is considered one of the oldest cities in the country, founded in 1585.
Located along the Atlantic coast, Joao Pessoa impresses with its endless beaches, tropical vegetation, colonial architecture and relaxed atmosphere, often overlooked in favor of more popular cities, but this is precisely what makes it so special.
One of the city's biggest attractions is Ponta do Seixas, the easternmost point of the American continent. Here you can be among the first to see the sunrise every day. The area is also known for its impressive rock formations and the Cabo Branco lighthouse, a local symbol. Close to this place is Estacao Cabo Branco, a cultural and scientific center designed by the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer, where you can explore exhibitions of art, science and technology.
The local cuisine is delicious, based on seafood, fresh fish, tapioca, cashews and various tropical fruits. You can try local dishes such as moqueca de peixe (fish stew) or desserts based on coconut and papaya.
